The Sold-Out Lip Serum Sephora Waited Two Years to Stock
AORA México just became Sephora's first fully plastic-free beauty brand. California, home to one of the country's largest Latino populations, is watching closely.
Long before Sephora carried it, a spicy lip serum called Acaríciame Más sold out three times over. No paid campaign pushed it. Shoppers found it online, tried it, and told their friends. No brand can manufacture momentum like it.
The word-of-mouth brand is AORA México, and this month it became Sephora's first fully plastic-free beauty label. Every product ships in tin, aluminum, or wood. The retailer had never fully committed to the standard with a single brand before. The launch arrives during Plastic Free July. It gives California shoppers a first look at a label built around one idea. Sustainability and prestige beauty do not have to compete.

Ahora or Never
The name AORA comes from ahora, Spanish for now. Nour Tayara and Rodrigo Peñafiel started the brand in Mexico City in 2022. Their premise was simple: luxury formulas and environmental responsibility could share the same shelf instead of trading places. Ingredients draw from Mexican soil directly, including five native chiles, tepezcohuite, and cactus flower.
The Inícia Illuminating Primer sold out three times before its retail debut. It picked up a following among makeup artists long before most shoppers could buy it. The pyramid-shaped Mírame eyeshadow palette and a run of collectible leather Chile Carrier Charms round out the collection. Prices run from $22 to $65, in line with other prestige brands already on Sephora's shelves.
Zero Plastic, Zero Apologies
rePurpose Global certified AORA's packaging claims. The brand says customers have already helped remove more than 2,390 kilograms of plastic from nature through their purchases. Every counter at Sephora usually glints with acrylic compacts and cellophane wrap. A full collection without a trace of either one still catches shoppers off guard.
Spanish-language packaging and bilingual content remain rare at major beauty retailers. AORA commits to every bit of it. California carries one of the largest Latino populations of any state in the country. Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and the Central Valley carry much of it. A brand built on Mexican ingredients and Spanish-language branding lands somewhere many California shoppers already recognize as home turf.
The collection is live now at Sephora.com. A confirmed in-store date does not exist yet. AORA already built a zero-plastic, all-aluminum display for retail partners. Shoppers near Los Angeles, San Francisco, or San Diego may want to watch their local Sephora. The rollout is still moving forward.
"This is the moment we built AORA for," said Nour Tayara, AORA's co-founder, in a statement marking the Sephora launch. "Sephora sets the standard in beauty, and when it embraces a new idea, the industry pays attention. This launch proves that plastic-free luxury is no longer a niche concept. It belongs at the center of the beauty industry, and we're proud to show that a brand born in Mexico can help define what's next."
A brand named after the word now picked a fitting week to prove it.
